Saxony's museums drew attention to themselves with various activities on International Museum Day. Museums are more important than ever in the current times, explained Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU). They promote exchange and offer different perspectives.
Saxony-wide Museum Day was opened at the KohleWelt in Oelsnitz. The history of coal mining in Saxony is documented and preserved there. Various other museums took part in the day of action with free admission, including the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz and the Bautzner Straße Memorial in Dresden.
International Museum Day has been celebrated since 1977. It aims to draw attention to the social importance of museums worldwide.
