What do Caroline Wahl and Angela Merkel have in common? They have both written bestsellers. Their books have been borrowed particularly frequently in Dresden and Leipzig this year.

In the municipal libraries in Dresden and Leipzig, "Freedom" by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was one of this year's top borrowers. In Leipzig, the novels "22 Bahnen" and "Windstärke 17" by Caroline Wahl and "Zwei Leben" by Ewald Arenz were also particularly popular, as the municipal libraries reported on request.

In the state capital, "Das Narrenschiff" by Christoph Hein and "Altern" by Elke Heidenreich were also among the most borrowed books. Among children's books, Leslie Niemöller's "Die Gurkentruppe" and "Die Stadt der Magier und Diebe" by Judith Mohr came out on top. The Dresden Municipal Libraries form a network of 20 libraries and a mobile library with a total of around 750,000 items.
