Sebnitz artificial flowers and the production of porcelain should enrich the cultural heritage not only in Saxony. Why parkour and fan culture are also proposed at the Sachsenring.

Sebnitz artificial flowers and porcelain production in a manufactory are among the cultural forms that Saxony is proposing for inclusion in the nationwide intangible cultural heritage. According to applications from the Free State, fan culture at the Sachsenring and parkour sport should also be included in this nationwide list, announced Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU).

Sebnitz has an almost 200-year tradition in the production of artificial flowers, which is continued today in the Schaumanufaktur Deutsche Kunstblume. The application for porcelain production came from the Porcelain Foundation in Meissen. It is reminiscent of the hard porcelain invented in Saxony in 1708 - the first real porcelain in Europe.

The Sachsenring, with its motorcycle races, shapes the identity of the region around Hohenstein-Ernstthal and Oberlungwitz. A Dresden association and the German Parkour Association are behind the application for parkour.

Cultural heritage lists to raise awareness

The four cultural forms have already been included in the Saxon state list of intangible cultural heritage. The state list now contains 21 entries. An entry in the list is intended to help draw attention to the cultural tradition.

The nationwide list currently comprises 173 entries. These include, for example, techno culture in Berlin, men's tailoring and the Finsterwalde singing tradition. The idea of cooperatives, the customs and festivals of the Sorbs, the singing of the Steigerlied and mountaineering in Saxony are all related to Saxony.

A panel of experts at the German Unesco Commission will now evaluate the newly submitted proposals. In spring 2027, the Conference of Culture Ministers will then decide which contributions will be included in the nationwide list.
