Kraftklub wowed the sold-out stadium with new songs like “Marlboro Mann” and classics—despite the sweltering heat, the fans partied wildly.

Amid midsummer temperatures, tens of thousands of fans celebrated the band Kraftklub at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion, which the organizer reported was sold out. “Look out for each other a little—even more than usual today,” said singer Felix Kummer at the start of the concert.
Due to the ongoing heat wave, the organizer had issued heat safety guidelines to fans in advance. For example, each person was allowed to bring 1.5 liters of water into the stadium, and there were water refill stations and misting systems inside the stadium where the standing-room-only sections were located.

Emergency rescue blankets are intended to protect fans from the sun

In addition, emergency rescue blankets were distributed free of charge at bars, concession stands, and inside the stadium. These are meant to be used with the silver side facing outwards as a sunshade over the head to protect against the sun. Items such as hand fans, mini-fans, small umbrellas, and cooling sprays were also permitted inside the stadium.

The five-piece band led by Kummer (36) thrilled the audience not only with new songs like “Marlboro Mann” and “Schief in jedem Chor,” but also with older hits like “Schüsse in die Luft” and “Ich will nicht nach Berlin.”
According to the band, this was Kraftklub’s first stadium concert.

Kickoff with two opening acts

The opening acts were Leipzig-based rapper Yung Pepp and the Chemnitz-based band Blond. Yung Pepp, who is only 17 years old, is considered a rising star and is accompanying Kraftklub on parts of their tour. The band Blond, meanwhile, consists of, among others, sisters Lotta and Nina Kummer, the younger sisters of Kraftklub members Felix and Till Kummer.

Kraftklub is one of Germany’s best-known indie bands and has repeatedly taken a political stance. For example, in 2018, the group organized the #WirSindMehr concert in response to days of riots by right-wing extremists in Chemnitz.
