Dresden Film Nights Kick Off with the City Pop Festival

The Film Nights on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden kick off their new season this evening with the City Pop Festival. The organizers have announced a diverse program centered on Korean pop culture and anime nostalgia. The festivities kick off with K-pop workshops where visitors can learn dance routines.

Among the highlights is a concert by Petra Scheeser, who has composed music for numerous anime soundtracks. Quiz shows and an “Artist Alley” featuring handmade artwork are also part of the program. The Japanese classic “Spirited Away” will be screened to close out the evening. The festival continues on Friday and Saturday at additional venues.

Movie Nights with More Than 100 Events

The Movie Nights on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden will feature more than 100 additional events, movie nights, and open-air concerts through the end of August. The program features numerous prominent artists such as Michael “Bully” Herbig and Mark Forster. Roland Kaiser will also be back with his “Kaisermania”—tickets are sold out for all four evenings. The organizers also reported a very positive response in advance. Advance ticket sales went “excellently.”

Last year, approximately 215,000 visitors were counted on the banks of the Elbe. That was about 16,000 fewer than the year before. A summer that was at times cool and rainy, along with the discovery of a bomb at the demolition site of the Carola Bridge, had somewhat dampened the overall results.
