90s party, freefall tower and a parade with 1,800 participants: In Sebnitz, the "Day of the Saxons" becomes an XXL event - and the border with the Czech Republic disappears for a weekend.

The small town of Sebnitz on the Czech border is celebrating the 30th "Day of the Saxons" this weekend. The town of 9,000 inhabitants is expecting up to 250,000 visitors from both the German and Czech sides, said Tina Meinert, spokesperson for the project office. The town has already been "well filled" since the morning. According to the police, some of the parking lots have reached capacity.

Political celebrities are also expected at Saxony's largest folk festival: In addition to Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU), the co-chairman of the Left Party in the Bundestag, Sören Pellmann, Saxony's Minister of Justice Constanze Geiert (CDU) and Saxony's SPD chairwoman Kathrin Michel and Henning Homann will also be on site. They will all be answering questions from citizens on the "Saxony Sofa".

Sunday parade is the highlight

This year's "Day of the Saxons" in Sebnitz offers eleven stages, 18 theme miles, a historical army camp, a funfair with a freefall tower and a Ferris wheel. There will be a 90s party on Saturday evening. Under the motto "Celebrate without borders!", the mayors of Sebnitz and Dolní Poustevna will also symbolically cross the border together in the evening.

The highlight of the weekend is the big Sunday parade with around 1,800 participants, 90 pictures, twelve marching bands and music bands as well as numerous floats and vehicles, according to the organizers.

Sebnitz hosts for the second time

The "Day of the Saxons" has been held in different cities every year since 1992. Sebnitz is hosting the event for the second time after 2003. The motto for the anniversary is "To blooming experiences!"
