Experimental porcelain art from eleven countries can be seen this year at the 4th International Porcelain Biennale at Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen. 23 artists from Belgium, France and Greece, among others, will be showing around 90 works from Saturday until April 13, 2025, as announced by the State Palace Administration.
The biennial has been held every two years at Albrechtsburg Castle since 2016. The idea came from the Association for the Promotion of Contemporary Porcelain Art from Meissen. According to the press release, no other place in Europe is as synonymous with porcelain as Meissen. Albrechtsburg Castle was the first production site for porcelain in Europe.
The aim of the Porcelain Biennale is to raise public awareness of porcelain as a pictorial material. The exhibition is intended to promote an understanding that porcelain can be and is an experimental means of expression for art, content and messages, it was said.
