The Philharmonie is Dresden's municipal orchestra and is no less renowned than the Sächsische Staatskapelle. Conductors of distinction past and present bear witness to this.

Frauke Roth will remain with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra as Artistic Director beyond her current term of office. According to the city hall, she will sign the contract extension until 2031 next Monday in the presence of Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert (FDP). The 58-year-old took over the management of the city orchestra in 2015 and has since accompanied the orchestra on its return to its original home in 2017 and through the coronavirus crisis.

In April, the city council approved a further appointment of the Hamburg-born musician beyond 2026. The music graduate is the first woman to head the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, which was founded in 1870.
