Filmfest Dresden is showing more than 380 short films from 60 countries at its 38th edition in April. The festival announced that this year's focus will be on the world of work under the theme "Work in Progress". "Various contributions and program items shed light on power structures, question conditions and show what role work plays in social participation and democratic involvement."
Film festival under pressure to save money
Despite the extensive program, the festival is once again affected by cuts. "The city of Dresden's budget freeze has led to a 10 percent reduction in our funding. Even more serious for us, however, is the fact that we will not be able to offer inclusive programs in 2026, as the corresponding funding has failed to materialize," emphasized Festival Director Anne Gaschütz. After more than ten years, we will have to discontinue the program for the time being.
