Almost 81 years after their destruction, the Proposition Hall and the Grand Ballroom in Dresden's Royal Palace have been restored. The official handover of the keys following the reconstruction of the two ballrooms in the north wing will take place next Friday, as announced by the Ministry of Finance.
The restoration of the two halls began in January 2023 under the direction of the Dresden I branch of the Staatsbetrieb Sächsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB). Numerous experts from the fields of heritage conservation, architecture, science and crafts were involved. The redesign of the rooms between 1838 and 1854 served as a model, which is well documented by extensive archive and construction documents as well as preserved parts of the building and exhibition.
