Completion of Dresden Royal Palace planned for 2027

Music in the palace chapel soon

The palace chapel is currently being converted into an event space with 270 seats, and music and singing are to be performed there again from October. Since January 2023, the Proposition Hall and the Grand Ballroom have been restored to their 19th century appearance. They are to be handed over to the SKD at the beginning of 2026 as additional exhibition rooms for the armory. The Great Palace Courtyard will follow in 2026 - and then, as the last major act of the mammoth project spanning several generations, the extension of the rooms in the east wing.

The Dresden residence of Saxon electors and kings from the 16th century, which was destroyed in 1945, has been undergoing restoration since 1985. Since then, the Green Vault, Kupferstich- und Münzkabinett, Türckische Cammer, Riesensaal and the parade chambers as well as the first permanent exhibitions of the armory have been set up there. Between 2010 and 2013, the historic medieval ribbed vault of the palace chapel was rebuilt.
