From Christmas markets to musicals: many children in Saxony slip into special roles around Christmas. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, the state directorate issues work permits.

The Advent season is particularly festive in Saxony and many children are right in the middle of it. Whether as Christmas angels at the markets, elves in musicals or as little actors in Christmas stories: Without the State Directorate of Saxony, some of the young artists would not be able to perform officially. This is because the children need a work permit - and the authority has now been busy issuing them.

"For the whole of 2025, the State Directorate has completed around 150 applications for work permits for around 1,500 children," said Béla Bélafi, President of the State Directorate of Saxony. "We are thus making a valuable contribution to the preservation of Christmas traditions."

The permits relate not only to Christmas events, but also to theater performances, music shows, advertising campaigns or recordings for radio, television, film and photography. When and for how long the children take part depends on their age and the type of event.
