Organizations Warn Against Cuts to Full-Day School Programs

Schools, after-school care centers, and partners need planning certainty

“Schools, after-school care centers, and cooperation partners need planning certainty in order to maintain existing programs and reliably establish necessary new ones,” the statement said. Although Saxony is currently meeting the legal requirement for all-day care starting in first grade in terms of quantity, there are compromises in the quality of diverse programs.

The associations also link this to the current staff shortage in schools. Many elementary school teachers have been reassigned to special education and secondary schools, and many elementary schools lack school administrative assistants and full school leadership teams. Organizing the all-day program alone is a nearly insurmountable task and contributes to the constant overload.
