The Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and the Saxon Business Association (VSW) want to work together to improve education in the STEM subjects. A new framework agreement has been concluded to this end, the ministry announced. MINT stands for mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology.
The new agreement aims to better connect schools and regional companies and enable practical projects in schools. There should be additional offers for pupils that go beyond the traditional lessons in the STEM subjects.
The plan is to offer "STEM do" courses on topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics and environmental awareness. Some of these will also be aimed specifically at girls to get them more interested in science and technology.
"Enthusiasm for STEM doesn't come from memorizing formulas, but when a child programs a robot for the first time or understands how the sun's rays generate electricity," said Minister of Education Conrad Clemens (CDU). In Saxony, this interest should be awakened at an early age.
