Saxony is setting a new course in the nationwide debate on early childhood education. A new "education and training plan" is to be presented at a specialist conference in Dresden this morning. It is no coincidence that the Free State is putting education first. "Education is a process that builds on upbringing. The federal law therefore describes the funding mandate in daycare centers as a triad of upbringing, education and care - in that order," Minister of Education Conrad Clemens (CDU) told the German Press Agency.
Many pre-school children have poor German language skills
According to Clemens, the new plan includes suggestions for pedagogical practice as well as a focus on child participation and the "reflective use" of digital media. The minister also referred to changing circumstances. "If more than a third of preschoolers do not have age-appropriate skills in German, that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are anomalies in pretty much all areas and that is why we are focusing on binding educational goals and better transitions between facilities."
