The Sankt Afra High School for Gifted Students in Meissen celebrated its 25th anniversary. “It’s something truly special to experience this place: a place where young people come together across boundaries, develop their talents, grow together, and bring education to life,” said Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU), according to a press release. Students, teachers, and staff demonstrated what can be achieved when people believe in an idea together and live it with passion. “Here, young people come together, develop their talents, and breathe life into education.” About 280 students currently attend the boarding school in grades 7 through 12. It opened in August 2001 as Germany’s first state-run high school for gifted students. The curriculum is tailored to support students with multiple areas of giftedness. In addition to the Abitur, students can also earn the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. The school collaborates with universities, among other institutions, and offers opportunities for independent research and in-depth study in various fields. On-site facilities include science labs, art studios, music rooms, and workshops. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reservedFirst State High School for Gifted Students Opens
