The construction of the new Bertolt Brecht High School in Dresden-Johannstadt is being funded with approximately 37.7 million euros from a special federal fund. The city announced that the goal is to create a “modern school campus” for about 900 students. Two new school buildings and a redesigned outdoor area are planned. In addition, the historic transformer station on the school grounds will be renovated. The total cost of the project is approximately 62.8 million euros. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2028, with the demolition of the old buildings set for April through July 2027. The new school campus is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2030–31 school year. “We are investing in modern learning conditions and in the future of the students,” said Saxony’s Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs, Conrad Clemens (CDU), according to the press release. The new building will strengthen the “unique educational offerings of the high school.” In addition to the Saxon Abitur, the school has offered the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma—an internationally recognized high school diploma—since 2011. The high school is currently housed at a temporary location on Terrassenufer. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
