An adventure report from the spring weekend with lots of animal highlights: By Iryna Kushko and Thomas Wolf
The first really nice day of spring attracted thousands of visitors to Leipzig Zoo last Saturday - including us. Even on the way there, it became clear that we weren't the only ones with this idea. There was already a long queue of cars outside the parking garage, and at the zoo entrance it was also a case of queuing up and waiting. But the anticipation prevailed - after all, a whole day full of animal experiences, exotic nature and exciting insights into foreign habitats awaited us inside.
Our first port of call: Gondwanaland - a huge tropical hall with a jungle climate all year round. As soon as we entered, the warm, humid air hit us and the greenery overwhelmed our senses. Gondwanaland impresses not only with its size and the wealth of species, but above all with its depth of experience. You can discover animals up close along winding jungle paths, past ferns and palm trees. On the treetop path, you can experience the scenery from above, almost like a bird above the rainforest. The boat trip on the Gamanil was particularly fascinating for us: for 2.50 euros per adult, you are first taken through a dark tunnel - a short journey through the history of the earth with serious tones about the role of humans in nature - before the boat opens up into the tropical world. A little vacation moment in the middle of Saxony.
