Train travelers in the Elbe Valley between Dresden and the Czech border must be prepared for recurring closures and longer journey times in the coming months. This is due to construction work to modernize the line between Bad Schandau and Schöna, as announced by Deutsche Bahn.
Regular total closures from March
For the work, the section between Schöna and Bad Schandau in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains will be completely closed at times. The section will be closed during the day from March 15 to 22 and from April 14 to 19. From March 23 until probably November 2027, the section will also be closed every Monday (except on public holidays) from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm. Trains will also be canceled on several nights in April.
Construction is already underway on the section between Heidenau and Rathen. Trains will continue to run there until April 11 in so-called track-change operation, and the line will be partially closed at night.
