A heavily overloaded timber truck exceeded the capacity of a police weigh station on Highway 9 near Berg (Hof district). According to police, the tractor-trailer combination weighed in at just under 60 metric tons—the permissible limit would have been 40 metric tons. To determine the total weight, both vehicles had to be weighed separately.
The 51-year-old owner of the transport company from eastern Saxony was behind the wheel of the truck on Wednesday. The police suspect that he overloaded the vehicle to save on an additional trip. Two cases have been filed against the man: as a driver for traffic violations and as a business owner for the forfeiture of unlawful profits.
The 51-year-old was only allowed to continue his journey after about half of the loaded logs had been unloaded at a nearby company site.
