Construction work on the A38: What drivers should know

Due to construction work, drivers on the A38 near Merseburg will have to prepare for months of delays from next Monday. From 9 March until December, the roadway in the direction of Leipzig will be renewed over a length of 9.5 kilometers, as announced by Autobahn GmbH. The costs for the renovation amount to 30 million euros. But what do drivers need to bear in mind?

Construction work is underway on this section

The affected section is reportedly located between the Bad Lauchstädt and Leuna junctions - but without these two junctions themselves. The Merseburg-Nord and Merseburg-Süd junctions and the Geiseltal rest area are located within the section.

This is being renewed

According to Autobahn GmbH, the road surface is being renewed. In addition, seven highway bridges and seven other overpass structures as well as an anti-glare wall will be repaired. The safety equipment, signage and markings will also be renewed and parts of the central reservation drainage system will be modernized.

This is how traffic will be diverted

In the main construction phase from Monday until December, traffic will be diverted to the Göttingen direction carriageway. The lane towards Leipzig will then be closed. For the renewal of the Merseburg-Nord and Merseburg-Süd junctions, these will be closed on alternate sides at times. At least one junction will therefore remain open. The detours are comprehensively signposted both on the A38 and in the surrounding road network.

Preparations are already underway this week, which may already result in speed limits and partial closures. Autobahn GmbH asks you to use the A38 despite the restrictions and advises you to allow time.
