Saxony's exports to the USA are increasing despite difficult conditions. However, the export curve has recently been pointing downwards.

Exports by Saxon companies to the USA rose sharply to around 2.7 billion euros in the first half of the year. This is a nominal increase of 9 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the State Statistical Office. By comparison, exports across Germany fell by 4 percent in the first six months of 2025.

In Saxony, exports initially rose sharply at the beginning of the year and then fell sharply. An increase of 28 percent in the 1st quarter was followed by a decline of 7 percent in the 2nd quarter. According to the authority, this is likely a significant reflection of the tightened US customs policy under President Donald Trump, which has apparently led to certain "pull-forward effects".

Factually on a par with China

The USA accounted for around 10 percent of Saxony's total exports of 26.7 billion euros in the first half of the year - making it the top trading partner for the Free State, almost on a par with China. By far the most important Saxon export goods to the USA were cars and motorhomes with a total value of 1.6 billion euros.

Saxon imports from the USA amounted to just under 2 billion euros in the first half of the year, more than three times as high as in the same period last year. This was due to a large increase in imports of aircraft worth 1.6 billion euros - only 107 million euros were imported in 2024.
