Saxony is looking for the freshest ideas for libraries in rural areas. According to Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch, these often face major challenges. Who can apply.

Saxony is looking for the most innovative library. The competition for the Saxon Library Prize has been launched, as announced by the State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism. Public and academic libraries have until September 10 to submit a project that enriches library services in rural areas. The general importance of libraries should also be strengthened by the project ideas, it said. Prize money of 10,000 euros is available for this.

"Libraries in rural areas are of outstanding importance for all citizens across all generations. Their diverse range of services is often essential for the community," said Saxony's Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU).

The Minister also pointed out the often major challenges facing libraries in rural areas. These are dependent on commitment and dedication. This is precisely where the library prize should come in and support innovative projects that test concrete ways to improve provision locally, she said.

This year, the library prize is being organized jointly with the Saxony Library Association. This is the 14th competition. The prize is awarded by a jury consisting of the board of the Saxon Library Association and the Saxon State Office for Libraries.
