In view of the enormous rise in fuel prices, the debate continues in Saxony as to what measures should now be taken. CDU member of parliament Florian Oest is calling for a fuel price cap like in Poland. Saxony's Economics Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) also called for further steps to relieve the burden on motorists.
"The current fuel price package is not enough," Oest told Stern magazine. "We need tax relief and a price cap based on the Polish model." Since this week, the neighboring country has had a daily price cap for petrol and diesel set by the government. The value-added tax and energy tax have also been reduced. "A look at Poland shows that a cap on fuel can lead to more stability," said Oest.
