Space travel is becoming increasingly important

Thuringia and Saxony are making their mark in this sector. "Space travel will become increasingly important in the coming years. This is mainly due to the countries' great need for security. In Saxony alone, around 160 companies and research institutes are active in the sector.

Space debris poses a problem for space travel

One issue in space travel is space debris - disused satellites, rocket stages or debris that also pose a risk to spaceships and astronauts. "Space debris poses huge technological challenges," explained Göhler. The industry will still have a lot to do in the coming decades. The Swiss company Clearspace, for example, wants to collect space debris.
