The work on the slope went faster than expected: cars can already drive over the railroad bridge again today.

The full closure of the bridge over the railroad tracks in Bad Schandau will be lifted later today - two days earlier than planned. The Ministry of Infrastructure announced that the contracted subsoil company completed the investigations on the slope faster than expected.

On completion of the dismantling work, the bridge will be reopened to traffic. Local traffic will also be able to resume regular operations from Thursday. Ambulances and the fire department have been able to cross the bridge again since yesterday. The restriction to one lane, which has been in place since October 21, remains in place.

Makeshift bridge in planning

A special inspection of the bridge had identified weaknesses in its load-bearing capacity. It will have to be demolished in the near future. According to the ministry, planning for a temporary bridge is underway at full speed. Geotechnical investigations of the rock were necessary as part of the preparations. From Monday, boreholes were drilled into the slope for this purpose. The bridge was completely closed for the duration of the work and traffic was diverted. The Elbe bridge was not affected by the work.
