The ADAC expects the roads in Saxony to be full at the start of the Easter vacations over the long Easter weekend. The risk of traffic jams on German freeways is high at times - even if things may be a little more relaxed in 2026 than last year, it said in a statement. The high fuel prices could therefore discourage longer vacation trips. However, cars would be taken for visits to relatives and excursions.
When will it be particularly crowded?
The ADAC expects the number of traffic jams to increase noticeably in Saxony next Wednesday, as many drivers will want to avoid Maundy Thursday. Maundy Thursday is expected to see the most traffic jams of the Easter holidays.
On Good Friday, it will be lively in the morning. However, there are unlikely to be any major or long traffic jams. On Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, the risk of traffic jams will be the lowest in Germany. On the afternoon of Easter Monday, many traffic jams are pre-programmed due to people returning home.
The risk of traffic jams is also relatively high regionally on the following days, when the long weekend and the vacations in Bremen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt end.
