Fewer class cancellations and modernization of the curricula

Saxony’s Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs, Conrad Clemens (CDU), promises a further reduction in class cancellations at schools. “We will achieve that as well,” he said during the presentation of the new school year. Last school year, they were able to reduce class cancellations by over 20 percent, particularly at high schools. “That is why our top priority remains ensuring that more classes take place at our schools and fewer are canceled.” 

Teacher assignments to other schools will continue

One measure will continue to be the assignment of teachers to other schools where the teacher shortage is particularly acute. “The biggest challenge remains the equitable distribution of available teachers throughout Saxony,” the minister emphasized.

Saxony to modernize all curricula by 2030

Clemens cited the modernization of the curricula by 2030 as a second priority. For the first time since 2004, all 528 curricula across all subjects and school types will be revised. In addition, the curricula are intended to equip students with more skills and address social and educational policy developments. “This includes not only democracy and media education but also language education,” he said. 

The cell phone ban now applies not only to elementary schools but through 8th grade.
