There are fewer daycare centers and employees in daycare facilities in Saxony than in the previous year. The number of available childcare places has increased. This is shown by figures from the State Statistical Office.

In Saxony, the number of daycare facilities for children fell last year. According to the State Statistical Office, there were a total of 2,069 daycare facilities for children of all ages as of March 1. That is 43 fewer facilities than a year earlier. This corresponds to a decrease of two percent.

In the same period, the number of employees also fell by 2.2 percent. This means that 39,117 employees were working in Saxony's childcare facilities on the reporting date. Just over half of them work 32 to 38.5 hours per week, the report continues. A further 30 percent work between 21 and 32 hours per week.

The number of available childcare places has increased by 742. According to the report, there were a total of 378,159 places for children of all ages in Saxony on the reporting date. According to the figures, 96.5 percent of three to six-year-olds attend a facility. Among the under-threes, every second child is cared for in a childcare facility.

In Saxony, the number of births has been falling for years. According to the State Statistical Office, fewer children were born last year than at any time since 1995. There were 24,697 live births - around 1,500 fewer than in the previous year. The trend towards fewer births, which has been ongoing since 2017, is therefore continuing.
