Earlier than initially announced, the Elbe cycle path on the riverbank in Dresden's Neustadt district is open again. The closure, which had been in place since the partial collapse of the Carola Bridge, was lifted early on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the Saxon state capital. Pedestrians can now also walk along the Elbe again.
After the demolition work on the Carola Bridge was completed, the terraced bank on the opposite bank was opened two weeks ago. On the Neustadt side, however, the dismantling of a construction road and the renewal of the asphalt surface layer were still pending. The work could not be carried out earlier due to the film nights being held there.
The opening was originally announced for mid-October. In the coming weeks, further work is to take place on the navigation channel in the Elbe and on the bus parking lot on the Old Town side.
