Following the discovery of an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig Airport, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has internally denied reports claiming that one of the Ukrainian Antonov aircraft in the vicinity had been loaded with ammunition. During a meeting of committee chairs in the Bundestag with members of the Interior and Defense Committees, it was clarified that there was no ammunition on board the aircraft. A report by “Focus” on the denial also corresponds with information from the German Press Agency. The ministry did not initially respond to an official inquiry.
An airport employee had spotted the drone, which was loaded with explosives, on the “South Runway” of Leipzig/Halle Airport early Wednesday morning. According to security sources, it was located near a Ukrainian Antonov AN-124 Condor transport aircraft. Specialists from the Federal Police defused the explosive device.
