Despite mini-growth nationwide, Saxony remains in the red. What the price increase has to do with this and why things would look very different without it.

Saxony's economy is not getting any wind in its sails. Contrary to the national trend, gross domestic product fell for the third year in a row in 2025: by 0.2 percent in price-adjusted terms. This was announced by the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. Nationwide, there was still a meagre increase of 0.2 percent.

While other federal states such as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Bremen and Berlin even recorded growth rates of over one percent, Saxony is one of the seven federal states with a shrinking economy.
