Solarworld was once Germany's largest solar module manufacturer. Insolvency came in 2018. But the rights to the brand are still worth something today.

The founder of the former largest German solar module manufacturer Solarworld has bought the trademark rights of his former company. This was announced by the insolvency administrator of Meyer Burger (Germany) GmbH, Lucas Flöther.

The trademark rights to Solarworld last belonged to the Swiss group Meyer Burger. "With the sale, a significant amount will flow into the company's insolvency estate," explained Flöther. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Time is running out to find an investor for Meyer Burger

Solarworld was founded in 1998 by Frank Asbeck. The company produced solar modules in Freiberg, among other places. Solarworld finally filed for insolvency in 2018. Meyer Burger joined the company in 2021 and started new production in the halls in Freiberg. This also came to an end in 2024.

According to insolvency administrator Flöther, talks with investors are still ongoing for the two companies Meyer Burger (Germany) and Meyer Burger (Industries). "However, the time window in which an investor solution is possible is beginning to close," he said.
