The railroad line between Gera and Weischlitz in the Vogtland district of Saxony will be closed for several weeks from Monday morning. According to Vogtlandbahn, the reason for this is work on the signaling technology. All trains on the RB4 line from Gera to Weischlitz and to Adorf at weekends will therefore be canceled. Replacement buses will be running.
World's second largest brick bridge soon to be renovated
The construction work and restrictions will continue until December 11. On the section between Greiz-Dölau and Weischlitz, rail replacement services will remain in place until the following day on 12 December.
The reason for this is the completion of years of renovation work on the historic brick bridge over the Elster Valley. The 19th century structure is the second largest brick bridge in the world after the Göltzschtal Bridge, which is only around ten kilometers away.
The line affected by the construction work is also one of seven Germany-wide projects in Deutsche Bahn's so-called fast-track program. According to the Vogtlandbahn, the renewal of signals and point machines along the route and a new digital signal box in Plauen will lead to better control and more flexible train travel options in future.
