The German para-triathletes won silver and bronze at the World Triathlon Championships finals. Two-time Paralympic champion Martin Schulz narrowly missed out on his fifth world title in the PTS5 class. The 36-year-old from Leipzig fell 16 seconds short of gold. Chris Hammer (USA) took first place. “I was hoping for a little more. I came here to become world champion,” said Schulz after the race, which consisted of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a five-kilometer run: “My form had been improving rapidly lately, but today wasn’t my best day.” In the PTS3 class, Valentin Hanzer finished fourth, missing the podium by just three seconds. In the PTVI class for visually impaired female triathletes, Anja Renner and her guide Maria Paulig secured the bronze medal—just as they did a year ago at the World Championship Finals in Australia. “We can be more than satisfied with this result, especially since I didn’t have such a good day today,” said Renner.
