Both teams neutralized each other at the start

Those expecting the hosts to produce a firework display in attack were disappointed. Having learned from the experience of conceding two quick goals in Fürth, Dynamo first tried to gain confidence in their actions. That was also successful because Magdeburg stood quite high, but only began to press consistently after a quarter of an hour.

As a result, both teams neutralized each other for a long time and the game took place between the penalty areas. As a result, chances inevitably only came from mistakes in the build-up play, of which there were few at first. The visitors had the best opportunity after a counter-attack, but Lubambo Musonda's (23) pass was blocked at the last moment by the Dresden defense in front of Laurin Ulrich.

The FCM's opening goal came practically out of nowhere. Baris Atik delivered a sharp corner to the near post, Hugonet was on hand with his head and the ball found its way off the post and into the goal. The lead played into the cards of the visitors' game plan, who now repeatedly tried to exploit the Dynamo defence with long passes into the deep.

Turbulent final phase of the first half

The Saxons then tried to gain control, but FCM defended coolly and allowed virtually nothing near goal. Until the 44th minute, when Sascha Risch fired in a low shot from 18 meters, Dominik Reimann in the Magdeburg goal could only let it bounce forward and Daferner dusted it off. But that was not the end of the first half. Atik again staggered the Dynamo backline, Kaars reacted quickest and had no trouble finishing.

After the break, the home side played more offensively, which opened up counter-attacking opportunities for Magdeburg. Nollenberger (50') found Kaars at the far post during a quick counter-attack via Atik, who narrowly missed. On 62 minutes, Kofi Amoako wasted a Dynamo opportunity in the opposition penalty area, while Musonda failed to beat Tim Schreiber in the Dresden goal. The hosts' keeper was also on hand in the 67th minute when Kaars appeared alone in front of him.

Hauptmann brings new impetus to Dynamo's play

Dresden's play became more purposeful with the introduction of Niklas Hauptmann. However, a shot by Lukas Boeder (68') from a central position was too high. The hosts were lucky that a supposed 1:3 from Kaars (74') was conceded by the VAR. As the game progressed, more and more chances were created. Jonas Oehmichen (79) headed over the bar. In the turbulent final phase, the FCM defense saved several times against Dresden, who once again paid a lot of money after Fürth.
