1. FC Magdeburg saved their start to the season in the 2nd Bundesliga and thoroughly spoiled that of Dynamo Dresden. In the 2:1 victory - the first success in Dresden in 25 years - the visitors showed themselves to be cool and ice-cold in front of goal, while the hosts failed due to their lack of ideas. Jean Hugonet (28 minutes) had given Magdeburg the lead with a header. Christoph Daferner (44') equalized and Martijn Kaars (45.+1) restored the visitors' lead, which held until the end.
While FCM coach Markus Fiedler sent out the team that had lost 1-0 to Eintracht Braunschweig a week ago, Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm reacted to the glaring defensive weaknesses in the 3-2 defeat in Fürth. He sent four new players into the 71st competitive Elb-Clásico, with three defensive players - Alexander Rossipal, Aljaz Casar and Claudio Kammerknecht - losing their starting places.
