Handball Bundesliga club HSG Wetzlar has signed backcourt player Tomas Piroch from relegated SC DHfK Leipzig. The Czech player has signed a two-year contract, as announced by the HSG.
“Tomas brings a high level of quality and stability to the defense,” said Wetzlar’s sporting director Michael Allendorf. The 26-year-old will provide the team with important momentum “through his experience and mentality,” Allendorf added.
Already played in the Champions League
Piroch came to Germany at the age of 18 and was a member of MT Melsungen’s U19 team. Via HC Kriens-Luzern in Switzerland and US Créteil HB in France, the Czech player found his way to the top Polish club Wisla Plock in 2022, with whom he won two cup titles and two league championships and also played in the Champions League.
Following a disappointing season in Leipzig, which culminated in relegation, Piroch will thus remain in the Handball Bundesliga. “I’m happy that I can continue playing in the Bundesliga and I’d like to thank the Wetzlar management for the trust they’ve placed in me,” said the new signing.
