Dynamo Dresden led for most of the game, but VfL Osnabrück didn't give up. Substitutions brought new energy and earned the hosts a well-deserved point.

Newly promoted VfL Osnabrück fought hard to earn another point in the 2nd Bundesliga. Against Dynamo Dresden, the Lower Saxony team managed to salvage a 1-1 (0-1) draw after trailing for most of the match. In front of 15,741 spectators, Niklas Hauptmann (38th minute) scored for Dresden and Robin Fabinski (87th) for Osnabrück. The visitors thus failed to secure the much-hoped-for breakthrough.

The Saxons, with Lennart Grill in goal in place of regular starter Tim Schreiber, got off to a lively start. However, Osnabrück had the first big chance through Robin Meißner (4th minute). His shot inside the Dresden penalty area was blocked by Jonas Sterner, though.

Osnabrück Takes Control Late in the Game

Dynamo remained the dominant team. They hardly created any danger at first, but then the visitors were rewarded with the opening goal. Hauptmann was set up brilliantly by Sterner and worked the ball over the line.

VfL coach Timo Schultz tried to inject more momentum into the offense by bringing on Ismail Badjie, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, and Konrad Faber. Gradually, the momentum shifted in favor of the hosts. Three minutes before the final whistle, Fabinski was in the right place at the right time and scored the well-deserved equalizer with a header.
