The Chemnitz Bundesliga basketball team put in a spirited performance for a long time in Ljubljana. However, a weak spell in the third quarter proved to be their undoing.

Bundesliga basketball club Niners Chemnitz has been eliminated from the Eurocup. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore lost 65:73 (39:36) to Slovenian series champions Olimpija Ljubljana in the round of 16 on Wednesday evening. Amadou Sow was the Saxons' best scorer with 13 points.

The Niners exerted high pressure in defense from the outset and so prevented the home side from finding its rhythm. Chemnitz initially got in its own way in offense, conceding six turnovers in the first quarter, but then improved considerably and pulled 34:26 ahead in the 18th minute.

The Slovenians defended far more aggressively after the break. The Niners lost their playful line and went almost seven minutes without a bucket from outside. In that spell, Ljubljana turned a 40:44 deficit (24') into a 56:46 lead (31'). Although Chemnitz fought its way back to 64:66 (38') thanks to a good shooting percentage from the three-point line, the home side had more to add in the final spell.
