Dresden misses out on victory after thrilling final phase

In injury time, Dynamo Dresden missed out on an important victory in the relegation battle in the 2nd Bundesliga. Despite a strong first half and a 3:1 lead, the visitors had to settle for a 3:3 (3:1) draw at Karlsruher SC. Following a video review, KSC were awarded a penalty in the thrilling final phase. Captain Marvin Wanitzek (90.+4) equalized with his second converted penalty of the afternoon.

Dynamo had already looked like winners thanks to two goals from Niklas Hauptmann. Hauptmann scored in the third minute, with KSC substitute goalkeeper Robin Himmelmann looking unlucky on his debut for the Baden side.

KSC show a weak first half

The second Dresden goal caught the veteran in the KSC goal by surprise when Ben Bobzien slightly deflected Jason Ceka's cross (28'). When Hauptmann artistically rewarded Dynamo with the 3:1, Himmelmann was powerless (44').

Karlsruher SC disappointed in the first half in front of 33,180 spectators in the sold-out stadium. Wanitzek's converted penalty made it 1:1 at the break, but youngster Loyey Ben Farhat made it exciting again with a spectacular equalizer to make it 2:3 (68') before things got turbulent at the end. Farhat only briefly celebrated the supposed winning goal, which did not count due to offside.
