The Saxon Ministry of Culture does not believe in banning the wolf salute in nurseries and schools. The gesture is similar to the nationalistic wolf salute, which was shown by a Turkish player and many Turkish fans during the European Football Championship.

A ministry spokeswoman said that when a teacher or educator uses the gesture, it is in conjunction with the words "silent fox" or "quiet" to calm down a noisy situation. "There is no risk of confusion with the wolf salute." A ban on the silent salute would be completely excessive.

If necessary, clarify

The ministry is also not aware of any complaints. "If there is a need, the topic can be addressed, discussed and clarified. The educators and teachers have the necessary sensitivity and expertise to do this."

The wolf salute usually expresses affiliation or sympathy with the Turkish far-right Ülkücü movement and its ideology. In Turkey, for example, it is used by the ultra-nationalist MHP party, which is a partner of the government under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
