The Abitur examinations begin on Tuesday for around 10,647 pupils at general secondary schools, colleges and evening grammar schools in Saxony. Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU) wished those affected every success on Monday. "The goal is within reach. Now it's time to hold your nerve and trust in what you've learned."

The general grammar school will begin with the subjects Protestant and Catholic religion. The exams in mathematics will take place on April 23 and German on April 25. The oral examinations are scheduled to start on May 26. The specific dates will be set by the schools themselves.

Last year, the Conference of Education Ministers decided that there will no longer be any compensation for disadvantages due to the coronavirus pandemic for the 2024 Abitur. The current Abitur year could once again be taught entirely in presence in the upper secondary school.
