Frieda and Matheo were the most popular first names for babies in Saxony in 2025. This was announced by the Society for the German Language (GfdS) in Wiesbaden. Alternative spellings were also taken into account. According to the data, both names improved from third to first place. In second and third place were Mathilda and Hanna for girls and Emil and Noah for boys. In the previous year, Mia and Emil were in first place.
Sophia and Noah continue to be the most popular first names for babies nationwide. The GfdS has been publishing an annual list of the most common first names in Germany since 1977. This year's list is based on data from around 750 registry offices, which submitted a total of almost 830,000 entries to the society. In this way, almost 91 percent of all first names given in Germany in 2025 are recorded.
