Knitting is all the rage and is now making its way into the museum. The Museum of Saxon Folk Art, part of the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD), is setting up a permanent “Knitting Library” and is hosting the “Long Night of Knitting” on the last day of October. Author Ebba D. Drolshagen will also be picking up her needles for the occasion; she provided the inspiration for the library with her book “Two Knit, Two Purl: Stories of Knitting” and supported its establishment with a donation, according to the SKD. The Knitting Library contains books and magazines with knitting patterns dating from around 1920 to the present—donated by people from Dresden and the surrounding area, according to the announcement. In addition, the museum has been collecting stories about knitting over the past few months. Starting November 1, visitors can visit the knitting library during the museum’s opening hours, browse through the books, read the stories, and add new ones—or even pick up needles and yarn themselves while sitting in an armchair. On opening day, Drolshagen will present an overview of this popular pastime under the title “The Red Thread—Stories About the History of Knitting.” Starting November 6, fans can indulge in their hobby together at the museum every Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. under the motto “Knitting on Fridays.” Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de).
