“We really let loose one last time to wrap things up,” says Nike (22) from Bremen. She had traveled from the north with many friends to attend what will be, for the time being, the last edition of Saxony’s largest rock festival at Lake Störmthal near Leipzig. The organizers had announced that they planned to take a break next year for financial reasons. Accordingly, the festival’s motto was: “Highfield. One Last Dance.”
Organizers plan to use the break to develop a new concept
Highfield is no longer economically viable in its current form, organizers Semmel Concerts and FKP Scorpio had announced. Compared to the pre-COVID era, costs for staff, materials, performance fees, and energy have risen by about 45 percent. At the same time, demand has fallen due to the increased cost of living. Most recently, around 28,000 people attended the festival; at its peak, attendance reached 35,000. The hiatus will be used to develop a new concept, organizers said.
