Anyone active in Saxony's music scene can now apply for the "Popular Music Saxony 2026" competition. A total of 60,000 euros in funding is up for grabs.

Saxony's music scene can once again apply for state funding. The "Popular Music Saxony 2026" competition has now entered the application phase, as announced by the Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs in Dresden. Musicians, music companies, clubs and festivals have until January 14 to submit projects. A total of 60,000 euros will be awarded in five categories.

The newly founded Office for Pop Culture and Music Saxony (BPM) is hosting the competition for the first time. "With the newly founded Office for Pop Culture and Music, we have sent a clear signal for the diversity and strength of Saxony's music industry," said Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter (SPD). The competition makes it possible to "experience the potential of the Saxon music scene and make it more visible".

Stage free for innovation and diversity

A total of 20 projects are to be awarded 3,000 euros each - including new acts, music tech projects, collaborations, festivals in rural areas as well as clubs and live venues. Music professionals and companies of legal age from Saxony are eligible to take part. The prizes are to be awarded on March 23 in Leipzig.

BPM project manager Alex Pagel spoke of a "first milestone" for the new institution. "We want to make visible what makes Saxony's music scene so special: the courage to try something new, the diversity and the motivation to move forward together."

Music as an economic factor

Music is not only culturally influential, but also an economic factor, she added. Other European countries have been systematically promoting pop music since the 1980s.

On December 11 (1 p.m.), the BPM will be offering a digital info session on the application process. Further information is available online.
