If a light on Steffen Flämig's candle arch is broken, he has to go up to lofty heights. Because his candle arch shines high up on a wind turbine. It is switched on at the weekend.

All over the world, candle arches are once again being placed in windows and glowing in the dark. But Steffen Flämig has chosen a very unusual place for his candle arch: the nacelle of a wind turbine in Mülsen near Zwickau - at a height of 140 meters. And this is how it came about.

In 2015, he put the wind turbine into operation during the Christmas season, he explains. Even then, candle arches were lit up in many windows. And so he came up with the idea of decorating his wind turbine for Christmas. The following year, he built such an arch with a local metal construction company and installed it on the wind turbine: 6 meters wide, 3.50 meters high and weighing 35 kilograms. It features the well-known Schwarzenberg motif with two miners, a carver and a lace maker.

"I received a lot of positive feedback," says Flämig. "And it's certainly not detrimental to the acceptance of the energy transition." Next Saturday, he wants to press the button again and light up his candle arch high up on the wind turbine at night. "I think this only happens once in the world."
