In 2023, more businesses were registered than deregistered in Bavaria. One economic sector was particularly well represented.

The number of businesses in Saxony rose by 1154 last year. A total of 26,445 business registrations and 25,291 business deregistrations were registered in 2023, the State Statistical Office announced on Monday. This means that 100 registrations were offset by almost 96 deregistrations. Compared to the previous year, 1.1 percent more businesses were registered. There was an increase of 4.7 percent in the number of deregistrations.

The most strongly represented economic sector was retail trade (excluding motor vehicle trade) with 4917 registered businesses. This was also the sector with the most deregistrations (4515). A good three quarters of the registrations concerned sole proprietorships, of which 36 percent were registered by women and 64 percent by men. Leipzig had the most registrations and deregistrations in Saxony (5263 and 4312 respectively), followed by Dresden (3948 and 3571 respectively) and the district of Görlitz (2106 and 2275 respectively).
