What happens when the managing director of a company is about to retire? Thousands of SMEs in Saxony will be faced with this question over the next few years.

In Saxony, there will be an annual shortage of around 1,500 successors to manage companies by 2030. This need emerges from an expert report published by the Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2023. According to the report, one in three company bosses is over 60 years old and has no plans to continue their business. Over the next five years, the succession of around 10,000 companies will therefore be unclear, according to the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection. This affects 150,000 employees of economically stable SMEs.

The "Saxon Business Succession Action Days" between June 12 and 26 are dedicated to solving this issue. Here, interested entrepreneurs and potential successors can find information and advice at state-wide events. For Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs, Dirk Panter, successful generational change is also important for maintaining Saxony as a business location.
