The father of a world champion is to get Greifswalder SC back on track. He previously worked as a coach at the fourth division club.

Roland Kroos, father of world champion Toni Kroos, is the new sporting director at regional league soccer club Greifswalder FC. The 65-year-old will initially support the struggling fourth-division club from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern until the winter break, while those responsible are also looking for a permanent solution.

Kroos (65) was coach at Greifswald until February 2023 before retiring for health reasons. "I've watched the last few weeks very closely and would now like to actively help us get back on track," said the father of ex-professionals Toni and Felix Kroos. After eleven matchdays, Greifswald are only in 15th place in the Regionalliga Nordost.
